TXST Men’s Basketball Hits The Road To Face Ragin’ Cajuns
Louisiana saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end last Thursday at Georgia State. The Ragin’ Cajuns have not lost at home this season with a perfect 11-0 record.
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The final weekend on the road for the regular season takes the Texas State men’s basketball team to the Pelican State. First up is Louisiana on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. inside the Cajundome.
Coming into the game, the Bobcats are 14-12 overall and in a three-way tie for third at 7-6 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Ragin’ Cajuns are 21-4 on the season and lead the conference with an 11-1 mark.
Bill Culhane will have the call on the radio with the game being broadcast on AM1300 The Zone out of Austin and KTSW 89.9 FM out of San Marcos. Nijal Pearson is coming off his second double-double of the season after recording 18 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday. For the season, he is averaging a team-high 14.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game. The sophomore has also made a team-high 43 three-pointers.
Also grabbing 6.0 rpg is Immanuel King. The Rocky Mount, North Carolina native is putting up 8.8 ppg and has blocked a team best 19 shots. Right behind him in the rejection category is Eric Terry with 18.
Tre’Larenz Nottingham recorded a career-high 24 points with six made three-pointers at UTA. His performance increased his scoring average to 6.7 on the season and 9.7 in the SBC.
Netting over six points a contest is Tyler Blount (6.9) and Alex Peacock (7.1). Blount has shooting a team best 40.6 percent from beyond the arc with 39 made treys. Peacock enters with 29 steals and is making a team-high 77.4 percent of his free throw attempts.
Through Wednesday’s games, the Bobcats are allowing the eighth fewest points per game in the nation at 62.7. The average is the fourth lowest among mid-major programs behind New Mexico State (61.3), Northern Iowa (62.5) and UNC Greensboro (62.5).
Scouting Louisiana

Frank Bartley leads UL in scoring (16.9), made three-pointers (56) and free throw percentage (85.5). He has made 42.7 percent from the field and 37.3 percent on long distance shots. The senior has also grabbed 3.5 rpg and recorded 30 steals.
JaKeenan Gant enters making a team-high 59.2 percent of his shots and blocked 55 shots. The junior is netting 15.0 ppg on 42.7 percent shooting and grabbing 6.3 rpg.
Putting up 10.8 ppg with a 52.7 field goal percentage is Johnathan Stove. He has taken just 32 three-point attempts but has made 13 of them for a 40.6 percent clip.
Bryce Washington is averaging a double-double with 10.6 ppg and a Sun Belt leading 10.7 rpg. The senior has made 55.1 percent of his shot attempts and is third on the team with 35 steals.
Malik Marquetti comes in shooting a team best 47.5 percent from beyond the arc. Of his 77 made field goals, 48 have come from long distance. The USC transfer has also gone 35-of-42 (83.3%) at the free throw line, is retrieving 3.5 rpg and posted 21 steals.
At point guard, Marcus Stroman is dishing out a team-high 6.4 apg and is second with 41 steals. The junior is scoring 6.6 ppg on 40.0 percent shooting.
Coming off the bench, Justin Miller is averaging 7.4 ppg and 4.0 rpg in 14.8 minutes per contest. Cedric Russell nets 6.1 ppg with 43 of his 53 made shots being three-pointers. The freshman is shooting 43.4 percent on long distance attempts.
All-Time vs. Mavericks
Louisiana leads the all-time series 10-1 over Texas State and has a 9-1 advantage since the Bobcats have joined the SBC. Last season saw TXST take the Cajuns to overtime on the road before falling by 10. In the first meeting this season, UL won 80-55 in Strahan Coliseum to end the Bobcats’ six-game winning streak. That afternoon, Shelby Adams was the lone TXST to reach double-figures with 10 points.
