AUSTIN ROAD WORK: MLK At Red River Sept. 3-8 Utility Work As Part Of Dell Medical School

Beginning just after 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, and extending through 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, roadwork supporting construction of the Dell Medical School will require traffic pattern changes for Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Red River Street.

During this time, the travel lanes of MLK will be reduced to one eastbound lane and one westbound lane at Red River Street. A revised traffic control plan to support a work zone in the west lane of Red River (north of MLK) will be implemented on Wednesday, Sept. 9, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. After this transition, the center turn lanes and both travel lanes on MLK will be restored in each direction.

This is the last of the three phases necessary to restore east/west traffic flow through this intersection. This work is scheduled to occur during the long weekend to mitigate traffic congestion in the area by avoiding peak traffic times.

The Dell Medical School, the first new medical school in nearly 50 years to be built on the campus of an Association of American Universities-member institution, is scheduled to admit its first class in 2016. Construction on the school’s buildings will be completed in summer 2016.
