Buda Issues Flash Flood Watch Until Saturday Evening

Aside from the hurricane, which made landfall this morning in South Carolina, the National Weather Service is tracking a tropical disturbance, or cyclone, in the Gulf of Mexico, which is expected to make landfall in Texas.

A flash flood watch is in effect until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15th.

Residents are asked to please monitor local weather reports. Additionally, they can also check atxfloods.com for low water crossing closures.

Residents traveling outside of the Buda area can monitor road conditions across the state by going to drivetexas.org.

Expected impacts in Hays County:

  • Shower and scattered thunderstorm activity is expected to increase again locally from Friday afternoon into Saturday morning
  • Locally heavy downpours of rain will be possible at times with heavier showers and any scattered thunderstorms
  • Total rainfall is expected to average 1-2 inches for most of the area with localized amounts of 2-3 inches possible in some spots
  • Due to recent heavy rains, any concentrated areas and/or repeat occurrences of heavy downpours could result in mostly minor flooding of some low lying and poor drainage areas

Residents are also encouraged to sign up to receive emergency alerts via phone, email or text message at www.warncentraltexas.org.
