Texas Affordable Baccalaureate Program Contribution/Expansion

More than 3.1 million Texans age 25-64 have some college credit but no degree. Our ability as a state to remain competitive and meet workforce demands will require that more Texans succeed in college and earn a credential.

The state’s recently announced 60X30TX plan sets a high bar with its overarching goal – that 60 percent of Texans age 25-34 will earn a degree or certificate by 2030. To meet this goal, Texas must develop and expand innovative programs that make college more affordable and accessible, especially for nontraditional students who may struggle to balance full-time jobs, families, limited time and tight budgets.

That’s where the state’s Texas Affordable Baccalaureate (TAB) program can help. It emphasizes hybrid learning models, competency-based education and affordability. This week in Austin, Dave Nichols, President of AT&T Texas, along with Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar and Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Chair Bobby Jenkins will announce a $400,000 contribution to the College for All Texans Foundation to fund a significant expansion of the TAB program.

The contribution is part of the AT&T Aspire program. Please join us on Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. in Austin in the Speaker’s Committee Room, CAP 2W.6, at the Texas State Capitol as Mr. Nichols, Comptroller Hegar, Mr. Jenkins, a recent TAB graduate and other leaders convene to announce the contribution and details about the expanding TAB program.
