San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter Resumes Normal Hours, Limits Intake

The shelter’s intake office is now able to accept stray dogs. Space for cats is extremely limited, and the shelter is able to accommodate urgent stray cases only.

The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter has resumed normal hours of operation following an unprecedented intake of animals recently seized in an animal cruelty case by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office.

The shelter’s intake office is now able to accept stray dogs. Space for cats is extremely limited, and the shelter is able to accommodate urgent stray cases only.

Placement of seized animals

Cats involved in the seizure are still being held for medical evaluation while awaiting test results for Histoplasmosis.

Since one cat has already tested positive, no cats will be made available for adoption or placement in rescue until all results are complete.

Donation and Volunteer requests

The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter is in need of donations of canned cat and kitten food.

Shelter staff is urgently seeking volunteers to assist with shelter technician and veterinary technician daily tasks.
