Another Record Setting Year For Total Number Of Texas State Graduates

SAN MARCOS – More than 5,100 candidates for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees, the largest number in school history, are expected to cross the stage during eight commencement ceremonies May 16-18 at Texas State University.

General John M. Murray, United States Army Futures Command, will serve as the keynote speaker during the 2 p.m. ceremony May 16, to be attended by degree candidates from the College of Science and Engineering and Graduate College.

All commencement ceremonies will be held in Strahan Arena at the University Events Center. Transportation and parking information is available at txstate.edu/commencement.

Degree candidates from the College of Fine Arts and Communication and Graduate College will attend the 10 a.m. commencement ceremony May 16.

Degree candidates from the College of Applied Arts and Graduate College will attend the 6 p.m. commencement ceremony May 16.

Degree candidates from the Department of Anthropology, Department of History, Center for International Studies, Department of Modern Languages, Department of Philosophy, Department of Psychology, Department of Sociology, University College and Graduate College will attend the 10 a.m. commencement ceremony May 17.

Degree candidates from the Department of English, Department of Geography, Department of Political Science, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, and Graduate College will attend the 2 p.m. commencement ceremony May 17.

Degree candidates from the Department of Counseling, Leadership, Adult Education and School Psychology, Department of Health and Human Performance, and Graduate College will attend the 6 p.m. commencement ceremony May 17.

Degree candidates from the Department of Finance and Economics, Department of Management, Department of Marketing and Graduate College will attend the 10 a.m. commencement ceremony May 18.

Degree candidates from the College of Health Professions, Department of Accounting, Department of Computer Information Systems and Quantitative Methods, Dean, Business Administration and the Graduate College will attend the 2 p.m. commencement ceremony May 18.

Throughout his career, Gen. Murray has served in leadership positions and commanded from company through division, with various staff assignments at the highest levels of the Army. His command assignments include: Commanding General Joint Task Force-3; Deputy Commanding General – Support for United States Forces Afghanistan; Commander Bagram Airfield; Commanding General 3rd Infantry Division, at Fort Stewart, Ga.; Commander, 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, at Fort Hood, Texas, while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom; Commander, 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division, United States Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany; Commander, C Company, 1-12th Infantry Battalion, 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Carson, Colo.

Gen. Murray received his commission as an infantry officer in the United States Army upon graduation from Ohio State University in 1982.

Gen. Murray is from Kenton, Ohio. He and his wife, Jane, have three daughters and seven grandchildren.
