Judge Ruben Becerra opened Tuesday’s, Sept. 22, meeting in the Commissioners Court ?with further discussion regarding the Local Disaster Declaration and Covid-19.

Alex Villalobos, Emergency Management Coordinator, and Chief of Staff addressed the court.

After a period of testing, Villalobos said they plan on soft openings for COVID testing in several locations starting September 25th.

Kyle began their soft opening at the PAC Center. San Marcos will begin on October 5th at the Med Park with their curative staff at that location.

Wimberley started this week on the 29th at the CommuniCare location, and be available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Dripping Spring will be starting a soft opening at the Farmers Market (The Triangle), and a kiosk will be placed on Texas State Campus with the curative staff working with Doctor Carranco for that testing.

Texas State University currently has 5,300 students on campus.

Upon the last meeting with Doctor Carranco, according to Alex Villalobos, there were 165 active cases for COVID-19.

They currently have 42 different isolation locations and are anticipating increasing that number to 72. They also have 130 quarantine spaces.

A significant number of students who have identified as positive have chosen to quarantine at home; wherever that ‘home’ maybe.

They have been provided with directions and materials to do that quarantine in spaces here or at home.

Villalobos told commissioners that there are enough isolation spaces currently and that somewhere around 50% of students choose to isolate at home.
