Buda To Consider Transit Plan Developed By Capital Metro

Buda City Council members are expected to consider adoption of a three-year transit plan in early January 2016, according to Chance Sparks, the planning director for the city.

Capital Metro, the regional transportation authority for the Austin area, has worked for almost a year on transit plans to provide bus service to Buda and other suburban cities, a spokeswoman for the transit authority said. If adopted, the transit plans would take about three years to implement fully. They then would be phased in, beginning with service targeting commuters, followed by demand-response services that involve passengers requesting pick-up and return service, the spokeswoman said.

If council adopts the transit plan, city officials expect public transit will cost Buda as much as $200,000 annually, depending on the level of service provided, Sparks said. An option for the first phase would be to use the existing Capital Area Rural Transportation System (CARTS) stop in Buda.
