Hays County Courthouse – The Hays County Auditor’s Office was recently recognized for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2019.

According to the official release from the GFOA, the report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

“The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting,” Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra said. “This is quite an honor for the Auditor’s Office and represents a significant accomplishment.”

During a recent Commissioners Court meeting, Auditor Marisol Villarreal-Alonzo and Vickie G. Dorsett, First Assistant County Auditor, received acknowledgment for their continued efforts related to financial transparency for the county.

Villarreal-Alonzo said this award is important to Hays County because it shows the commitment of her office to ensure the most transparent accounting practices.

“The County’s comprehensive annual financial report includes government-wide data and fund data reported in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles established by the Government Accounting Standards Board,” she said. “The Auditor’s Office, Commissioners Court, and county offices managing county finances work diligently to ensure that the County is achieving and maintaining a high standard of excellence in financial reporting and fiscal responsibility.”

This is the sixth consecutive year for the Hays County Auditor’s Office to receive this award.
