CAPCOG Ramps Up Peace Officer Training Before Cycle Ends

CAPCOG’s Regional Law Enforcement Academy (RLEA) has scheduled more than 20 courses between now and the end of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement’s four-year training cycle — Aug. 31, 2021.

This will allow peace officers around the region to complete their required 40-hours of continued education training as well as their state mandated courses.

RLEA may schedule additional training opportunities during the period.

Some training requirements are based on which certificate a peace officer holds; however, every officer needs to complete the following mandated courses by the end of the cycle — State and Federal Law Updates, Civilian Interaction Training, and Crisis Intervention Training. RLEA has multiple dates for these courses.

Other courses scheduled include Missing and Exploited Children, Interacting with Drivers Who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing, New Supervisor, Basic Instructor, and more.

CAPCOG’s in-person courses follow social distancing practices which includes limited class sizes to reduce the number officers in training rooms and requiring peace officers to wear masks while attending a course.
