Career Day Comes To De Zavala Elementary

De Zavala Elementary hosted their Career Day on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 7 -8, with numerous events around the campus.

Tuesday was scheduled for Kinder-grade 2, and Wednesday was primarily for grades 3-5. Students had the option to dress up as their future career as part of “show and tell,” and the counselor took photos that were available for an option to purchase.

Guest presenters occupied 25 stations on campus, and classes rotated through at designated time periods. Many students came prepared with written questions they wanted to ask the presenters. Many thanks go to the Career Day presenters who donated their time to interact with the De Zavala students.

The presenters included: Texas State professor/former principal Anna Lopez, dentist Dr. Josefina Martinez, Hays County EMS, Leticia Marin of the Hays Caldwell Council, Amtrak, SMCISD Athletics Head Girls Coach Michelle Moreno, Officer Taylor of the San Marcos Police Department, Dr. Stanfield of TSO, attorney Francesca Scanio Stacey, Kim Porterfield of Texas State University’s Public Relations, Eddie Diaz of Diaz Martial Arts, Margaret Mitchell of Microsoft, Hays County Constable David Peterson, Mayumi Auert of H-E-B, realtor Haden Riggs, hairdresser Kaylin White, Hays County Commissioner Precinct 4 Sylvia Muzzy, Julie Fisher of Corridor Pediatrics, SMCISD Trustee Miguel Arredondo, Ernest Torrez of World Finance Corporation/Tax Service, Yvonne Olvera and Robert Trevino of Workforce Solutions, Judge Maggie Moreno, Camille Bridges of the Fitness Center, Dr. Shatay Ashford of the Technology 4 Life Institute, and the Girls Empowerment Network.

In the afternoon, 5th grade students took part in a presentation about the District’s AVID program. Members of the De Zavala Student Council assisted by greeting and showing presenters to their stations, handing out water, and directing classes to the presenter stations.
