SMTX Announces July 4 Fireworks Postponed, Holiday Closures
Due to concerns about the rise in COVID-19 cases in San Marcos, the City of San Marcos is announcing that the annual July 4 fireworks display is being postponed until further notice.
Staff will continue to discuss and monitor the situation to determine when the celebration can be rescheduled.
Holiday Office Closures
City offices and drive-thru services will be closed Friday, July 3 for the Independence Day holiday. Library’s Front Porch Pick-up will be closed Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4.
Transit Service Takes Break, Continues Fare-Free
The City’s public transit system will not run on Friday, July 3 and will resume transit services on Monday, July 6.
Fare-free transit services will extend through the end of July for local bus routes.

Park Rules
Many people are expected to enjoy the San Marcos River and parks during the holiday weekend so remember to take COVID-19 precautions, to not congregate in large groups, and to social distance.

Regular Trash Collection Routes
Texas Disposal Systems will operate its usual trash collection and recycling routes.
Customers planning to go out of town are asked to put their carts on the curb no earlier than 7 PM the night before the scheduled pick up and return it to the house as soon as they return.
Residents who will be gone all week are encouraged to ask a neighbor to take their trash cart to the curb on their trash day and return to their home after pickup.
Knew that was going to happen. All you had to do was look at their handling of anything enjoyable (that doesn’t bring in massive amounts of tax dollars).
Just look at the playgrounds. The Parks & Rec website says all the parks are open. The only exception is the playground & parking lot at Children’s Park for “construction.” Yet every single playgound still has plastic fencing around it. All the the basketball goals hoops are still down.
The City is lying to us. Watch the videos. Councilman Derrick has that deer in the headlights look and is frozen with COVID fear. Baker is more worried about the homeless and forcing businesses to comply. And Joca is still getting paid for some inexplicable reason. They don’t want to reopen. They just can’t afford to keep the bars closed.
