Staff Reports

The City of San Marcos invites the public to participate in a Community Workshop to kick off the creation of a Downtown Area Plan for San Marcos.

On Wednesday, June 22, the City will host a Downtown Community Workshop at the Price Center, 222 W San Antonio Street. The interactive meeting schedule will include the following:

    • 5:30 – 6:00 p.m. | Social Gathering
    • 6:00 – 6:15 p.m. | Presentation
    • 6:15 – 8:00 p.m. | Interactive Activities

The Downtown Area Plan will help shape the future of downtown San Marcos. The plan is a component of the larger Vision SMTX Comprehensive Plan project being developed which will outline the goals and vision for the City of San Marcos over the next 20 years.

“We know downtown San Marcos is an important part of our community’s identity,” said Planning Manager Andrea Villalobos. “That’s why we’re kicking off a Downtown Area Plan to take a closer look at the community’s vision for its future.”

At the event, the community will weigh-in on a variety of topics related to downtown, including historic and cultural character, multimodal connectivity, public spaces, streetscapes, housing, small businesses, and building design.

“We want to know what the community loves about downtown and how we can make it a desirable and inclusive place to live, work, shop, and play into the future,” said Andrea Villalobos. “We invite you to participate in this important project by attending our upcoming community workshop to let us know what you envision for the future of the heart of our community.”

The event will include interactive activities, refreshments, games, and giveaways for attendees. For community members who cannot attend the open house, a virtual survey will be available following the event at www.visionsmtx.com.
