City Of Kyle Joins Call For Volunteers For 36th Annual Great Texas River Cleanup

KYLE, TEXAS – The City of Kyle is calling for volunteers to register for the 36th Annual Great Texas River Cleanup happening from 8 AM to 4 PM on Saturday, March 6.

Due to COVID-19, the City will be making changes to the cleanup.

This year to keep all volunteers safe, organizers decided to forgo a headquarters meetup to distribute breakfast tacos and supplies and opted to thank volunteers with a pizza voucher to use at their own convenience.

Volunteer groups made up of 10 or less can choose which area they would like to clean up upon signup — areas will be rated by difficulty — and instead of checking-in at a headquarters the morning of the cleanup, volunteers will meet with their designated group at their selected site.

Locations include:

  • Waterleaf Park – Zone 1 – 628 Abundance Lane
  • Waterleaf Park – Zone 2 – 628 Abundance Lane
  • Waterleaf Park – Zone 3 – 628 Abundance Lane
  • Cool Springs Park and Trail – 115 Florida Springs Drive
  • Bunton Creek – 980 Bunton Reserve Boulevard

If groups would like to clean areas not listed, they can choose “Other” and list the area — i.e. neighborhoods.

The City will provide gloves and bags to groups that will be distributed based on the preference chosen at signup.

Volunteers can either pick up supplies from City Hall between Monday, March 1, and Friday, March 5 from 8 AM to 5 PM or they can have supplies dropped off to the cleanup site they selected at signup the morning of the event.

They will just need to text 512-618-8296 when they arrive at their site.

Once the group has completed cleaning their area, volunteers can text the provided number and a City Staff member will drive to the site to collect all bagged trash and give volunteers pizza vouchers.

All participants are asked to practice State and Local Orders regarding social distancing and using face coverings when out in public or interacting with those outside of their household.

The 36th Annual Great Texas River Clean-Up is made possible by generous donors including H.E.B/Central Market, Keep Texas Beautiful, and the San Marcos Lions Club.

The event is sponsored by the Texas Rivers Protection Association, the City of San Marcos, Keep San Marcos Beautiful, Habitat Conservation Plan, and Texas State University.

To sign up to participate in the 36th Annual Great Texas River Cleanup go to the City’s signup page.
