City Of Kyle May Be Able To Defer Utility Payments For Furloughed Federal Employees

Staff Report

The U.S. Federal Government shutdown has caused hardships for federal employees who are furloughed, or still working but without pay.

The City of Kyle is offering furloughed federal employees who are residents a temporary deferral. The utility customer service representatives for water, wastewater, trash and storm water services will work with individuals with temporary hardships that prevent them from making payments.

According to Kyle’s Communications Manager, Kim Hilsenbeck, the utility department can develop individualized deferment plans to assist those workers who are experiencing hardships from the shutdown should contact the Utility Billing office. Each situation will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Employees in federal departments should be ready to provide information validating their current employment status and Kyle Utilities can only defer payments for utility services on a temporary basis.

If you live in subdivisions with private water suppliers, you will need to contact them directly.

Additional resources and assistance may be available through a variety of nonprofits and other organizations, including Hays County Food Bank and Allied Services of Kyle (A.S.K.) may also be able to help.
