Creator Of Rackspace To Speak At San Marcos High School For United Way’s Lunch, Learn, Live United

Co-founder of Rackspace Managed Hosting and Trinity University alumnus, Dirk Elmendorf, will speak at a special edition of United Way of Hays & Caldwell Counties’ Lunch. Learn. LIVE UNITED. event on November 13 from 9:30am-10:30am at San Marcos High School.
Elmendorf got his start by helping a very small computer consulting company which led him to an idea that changed his life. Along with two other Trinity students, Elmendorf co-created Rackspace Inc., a managed cloud computing company that began doing application development work in addition to offering basic Internet access and web hosting.
Although most hosting companies focused on the technology end of hosting, Rackspace focused focus on service and support. Named one of the top places to work by Fortune magazine, and offices located all around the globe, Rackspace quickly became a highly profitable and successful business selling for $4.5 billion in 2017.
Alongside his current consultancy company, r26D, Elmendorf advises several start-up businesses and promotes math, science and technology education through the 80/20 Foundation and the Witte Museum.

The goal of these sessions is to enlighten students on the various career paths to choose from, even within a single industry; what it takes to get to that point, the type of education or training required; and the demands of the job.
“We are delighted to be partnered with such a community-engaged organization,” said San Marcos CISD Career and Technology Education Director Mike Doyle. “United Way has created a program that provides our students meaningful ways to explore potential career paths toward a promising future. The students are thrilled to have the opportunity to gain insight from real professionals to help them understand the many different career paths they may consider.”
