Gary Job Corps Holds 2019 Graduation Ceremony, Students Shadow Elected Officials In the Capital And San Marcos
Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 to 24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training.

Gary Job Corps 2019 Graduation Ceremony
The new Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra and Community Relations Council executive member, was the featured speaker at Gary Job Corps’ 2019 graduation ceremony.
Judge Becerra shared with the graduates, family, and friends the need to continually set goals, the importance of being a good citizen, and commitment to the community. Over 80 trainees graduated from 18 trades, and some as double graduates, within the construction/manufacturing and health/human services vocations.
With over 200 friends and family members celebrating the occasion, student graduate speakers, Aaliyah Perkins and Caleb Burrell reflected on their time as students and about their plans of the future.
Gary Job Corps Shadows the Texas Capitol
The students from the Gary Job Corps Student Government Association and staff members job shadowed the Texas Legislators as part of the National Job Corps’ Job Shadow Day initiative.
Texas House Representative Erin Zweiner acknowledged the students and the mission of the Gary Job Corps on the floor of the Texas House of Representative during the January Session.
SGA students toured the Texas Capitol and visited with the office of Texas House Representative John Cyrier, speaking with his Chief of Staff MeLissa Nemecek. MeLissa shared with the students the operation of the Texas House, the process of law making, and a history on the legislature.
Morning with the San Marcos Mayor and Hays County Chief of Staff
As part of the National Groundhog Job Shadowing Initiative, students from the Gary Job Corps Student Government Association shadowed the San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson and Hays County Chief of Staff Alex Villalobos.
Mayor Hughson shared with the students the duties and responsibilities of city government as it relates to county, state, and federal agencies.
Hays County Chief of Staff to County Judge Ruben Becerra, Alex Villalobos further enlighten the students on the structure of county government as it relates to the state and the city.
