Hays County Commissioners Court Recognizes 4-H State Council President, Vice President

“It’s remarkable that two of our 4-H members were elected by their peers to the State Council at the same time,” Precinct 2 Commissioner Mark Jones said at the August 22 Commissioners Court meeting.

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court has publicly recognized two area 4-H members for their election to the State 4-H Council – the first time any Hays County 4-H member has served on the Council. Kyle Herron of Dripping Springs was elected president and Makenna Hawkins of Buda was elected vice president of the State 4-H Council during the annual 4-H Council Workshop.

“It’s remarkable that two of our 4-H members were elected by their peers to the State Council at the same time,” Precinct 2 Commissioner Mark Jones said at the August 22 Commissioners Court meeting. “It shows the hard work that went into their presentations to the Council delegates in order to be considered – each was given a topic and allotted two minutes to put together their speech before the group.” Campaigning is not allowed for the Council positions.

“Members have to commit to various projects during their one-year term, and it’s a busy schedule,” Precinct 4 Commissioner Ray Whisenant said. “We wish them all the best as they keep these commitments, which range from planning and leadership workshops to State Fair activities.”
