Hays County Reminds Residents That A Lot Of County Business Can Be Done Online

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – Staying at home as much as possible during the COVID-19 pandemic? Good for you!

While most Hays County offices and services are staffed in their offices as of March 18, you can take care of many Hays County services online; below are a few.

Remember that this is a quickly changing situation, so if you plan to visit a Hays County Office in person, please visit that department’s webpage at https://hayscountytx.com and call or email the office before going.

Payment information is also on each office’s page. Choose from the dropdown tabs at the top for the specific department you are interested in.

If you need assistance in determining what Office/Department you need to make a payment to, contact the Treasurer’s Office at 512-393-2236 or e-mail at Treasurer@co.hays.tx.us.

But first, read this information from the State of Texas about waivers to certain requirements:

Governor Abbott waived certain vehicle registration, titling, and parking placard regulations in Texas. It gives Texans a temporary extension to obtain initial registration, renewal of registration, and renewal of a permanent disabled parking placard.

Governor Abbott also granted a temporary extension for an individual with an expired 30-day temporary permit to obtain another permit or Texas registration.

The temporary waiver grants an extension for initial issuance of registration, renewal of registration, renewal of a permanent disabled parking placard, and issuance of a 30-day temporary permit needed to operate a vehicle on public roads.

The TxDMV will provide notice when normal registration, permanent disabled parking placard renewal and permit issuance services have resumed.

The waiver is in effect until 60 days after TxDMV notifies the public that normal vehicle registration, vehicle titling, and related services has resumed.

The purpose of the waiver is to prevent customers from having to physically visit a county tax assessor-collector office to obtain initial registration or a 30-day temporary permit (when the person’s 30-day temporary permit expires) or to renew your registration or a permanent disabled parking placard.

Customers may continue to renew their registration online at www.texas.gov.
