HAYS COUNTY – The Hays County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of a telephone scam where a sheriff claims the person receiving the call has an active warrant for missing jury duty.
According to HCSO, a person identifying themselves as “Sheriff David Johnson with the HCSO” claims the recipient must pay a $35.00 fine to resolve an active warrant for missing jury duty.
The HCSO says the calls are a scam, and their office does not solicit fines over the phone. If a person has received a suspicious call, the HCSO non-emergency line can be reached at (512) 393-7896.
