H-E-B is looking for new and innovative ways to make grocery shopping “more convenient” and become a digital retail industry leader.

Recently, it was revealed the company had begun piloting a new mobile out, H-E-B Go, to allow shoppers to skip the checkout lines.

Customers can scan their items using the app as they are placed in the cart. Once shoppers have completed their grocery list, they can pay the bill directly from their phone. Receipts are emailed to the shopper and must be checked by an H-E-B employee at the door before they leave.

Currently, the pilot program only expands to two stores, H-E-B’s downtown San Antonio South Flores Market location and the store at De Zavala Road and Interstate 10.

Shoppers can download the app from the apple store or google play for free. To create an account, customers must fill out an application, which is available at the South Flores Market and De Zavala Road and I-30 H-E-B stores.

There has been no announcement of any immediate plans to expand the program to other stores as of yet.

Aside from H-E-B Go, the company has another mobile app which offers a variety of features. Shoppers can make grocery lists, “clip and redeem” digital coupons, search through thousands of “kitchen-tested recipes,” look up product information and manage the family’s pharmacy needs.
