Johnson And Men’s 4x100m Relay Punch Tickets To Eugene

The foursome finished fourth in the first of three heats and had to wait out the final two heats to see if they would advance to Eugene.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Claiming spots for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the NCAA West Preliminary meet at Hornet Stadium were Texas State’s T’Mond Johnson and the men’s 4x100m relay team of Jaylen Allen, De’Marcus Porter, Lincoln Warren and Carlos Wilson.

Johnson was the first Bobcat to punch a ticket to Eugene, Oregon on Saturday in the men’s shot put. The junior clinched his second straight trip to the national championships meet on his final attempt that went 18.55m (60-10.5) and gave him the 12th and final qualify spot.

A few minutes after Johnson’s final shot put attempt, the men’s 4x100m relay squad earned its spot with a time of 40.32.

The foursome finished fourth in the first of three heats and had to wait out the final two heats to see if they would advance to Eugene.

The team claimed the third and final wildcard position and are the first TXST relay squad to qualify for the national championships since the men’s 4x400m relay two years ago.

Tramesha Hardy qualified for the quarterfinals of the women’s 200m relay. She fell just short of one of the 12 qualifying positions with a 19th place finish with a time of 23.56.

The junior, along with Dawnshae Evans, Esther Oyetunde and Sydni Willis, combined to finish 19th as well in the women’s 4x400m relay to just miss moving on to Eugene with a time of 3:39.89.

Also recording top 30 finishes for the Bobcats were Alvin Chikaeze (triple jump), Mylana Hearn (triple jump), Kylah Smith (100m hurdles) and Wilson (100m).

The NCAA Outdoor Championships will take place June 6-9 in Eugene at Historic Haywood Field.
