Kavin Gilder-Tilbury Selected To Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Third Team

NEW ORLEANS – Senior Kavin Gilder-Tilbury of the Texas State men’s basketball was honored by the Sun Belt Conference on Monday when the league released the preseason all-conference teams. The forward was selected to the third team in a vote by the conference’s head coaches.

Gilder-Tilbury is the top returning scorer for the Bobcats from last season when he averaged 12.3 points per game. He also finished the 2015-16 campaign with 4.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 steals per contest.

The Houston native made 44 three-pointers with a 37.6 three-point shooting percentage, the highest on the team. Not only did he pace the team in shooting percentage from beyond the arc last year, but Gilder-Tilbury has led Texas State all three years he has been a Bobcat. He is just the second player in program history to do so in multiple seasons and the only one to accomplish the feat in consecutive years.

Gilder-Tilbury is 188 points shy of becoming the 21st Bobcat to ever reach the 1,000-point plateau. The senior is also 16 steals shy of reaching the century mark in his collegiate career.

He is one of six returners from last year’s 15-win team that reached the Sun Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals for the second straight year. Joining him are fellow seniors Ojai Black, Bobby Conley and Maljhum McCrea along with sophomores Nathan Josephs and Courtney Julien.

Eight newcomers join the Bobcats, split evenly between junior college transfers and high school seniors, that was picked to finish 12th in the conference’s preseason poll. UT Arlington was the heavy favorite, receiving 10 of the 12 first-place votes. Little Rock was selected second and Georgia State was third with both having a first-place vote.

Coming in fourth was Georgia Southern, followed by league newcomer Coastal Carolina and South Alabama. Starting the second half of the poll was UL Lafayette and UL Monroe in seventh and eighth, respectively. Troy as picked ninth ahead of Arkansas State. Texas State was edged out for 11th by Appalachian State by one point.

Season tickets are currently on sale for the 2016-17 basketball season. Individual game tickets will go on sale to the general public on November 1.
