KSMB Spring Concert to Feature Transportation Theme

The second concert in the Keep San Marcos Beautiful Spring Concert Series at San Marcos Plaza Park will feature Fire in the Pines and The Refrains. Pre-concert booths about transportation start at 6:30 p.m. on April 14 at the San Marcos Plaza Park stage, 401 E. Hopkins, located at the corner of CM Allen Parkway and Hopkins.

Fire in the Pines: The cohesive membership of the band can partly be understood by their shared love of a place as much as their musical camaraderie. Most of the members grew up together in San Marcos, home to its own electric culture including a diverse songwriting community.

The Refrains: The Refrains is a tight melodious Indi-Folk rock band that plays unique original songs with good deep hooks. The songs are about simple truths delivered cleverly and the music mostly revolves around the lyrics. There is an intensity to the live performance that draws attention yet a professionalism within the players to maintain volume, control and respect for one another.

This week’s sustainability theme is transportation. There will be booths engaging residents about different forms of transportation:

  • CARTS and Transit- bus system
  • Transportation Dept- Sidewalk Plan
  • Sustainable San Marcos- bike tune ups
  • San Marcos Greenbelt Alliance- greenway loop
  • San Marcos Bike Advocacy- promoting a more bike friendly community

Pre-concert events begin at 6:30 p.m., and concert headliners take the stage at approximately 7:30 p.m. In case of severe weather spring concert series will be moved to The Marc. Free public, on-street parking is available within walking distance of the concert, as well as at City Park.

The parking lots at the Chamber of Commerce and Old Fish Hatchery will be closed to the general public, but parking attendants will be on hand to allow for volunteer, vendor, and sponsor parking. The parking lot at the Grant Harris, Jr. Building/Parks and Recreation main office is designated handicap parking.

The public is invited to bring lawn chairs to enjoy the free concert. Responsible use of alcohol is allowed at this event for those over 21. Under park rules Styrofoam, glass, and smoking are not permitted.
