Kyle City Council Member Resigns Unexpectedly During Council Meeting

Staff Reports

Council Member Shane Arabie formally resigned during the City Council meeting on Feb. 5.

The resignation came as an unexpected surprise for city council members, including City Mayor Travis Mitchell, following the Public Comments portion of the meeting.

Council member Arabie was elected in 2014. Prior to his election, he served as the chair of the Kyle Planning and Zoning Commission for three years.

Arabie cited professional reasons for his resignation and said opportunities had recently changed as far as his employment.

“I just want to thank everybody for all the work that we’ve done over the last four or five years,” he said. “It’s been a pleasure being here and getting to serve. Everything I’ve wanted to accomplish, everything I’ve looked forward to, we’ve accomplished at this point.”

After giving his statement about his resignation, Arabie excused himself from the meeting to applause from the audience and his colleagues on council.

Mayor Mitchell said Council member Arabie had been an active member in Kyle for the last five years, and he was sad to see him go.

The City of Kyle will call a special election in the upcoming months to replace former council member Arabie.

As of yet, no information regarding the dates or details of the special election have been released.
