City of San Marcos selects Rob Fitch as Emergency Management Coordinator

The City of San Marcos has selected Rob A. Fitch as its next Emergency Management Coordinator. Fitch begins his career in San Marcos Monday, July 12, and will be responsible for the City’s emergency preparation, response, and recovery.

Fitch comes to San Marcos with 18 years of experience in the field of Emergency Management and 21 years of dedicated service in the United States Coast Guard. Most recently, Fitch worked as an Emergency Management Coordinator for Penn State University and five Commonwealth campuses where he designed the Crisis Management Plan, trained personnel in crisis management operations and responsibilities, and conducted hazard and security assessments.

Prior to his employment with Penn State University, Fitch worked in Alaska at both the municipal and state levels. As an emergency manager for Alaska’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Fitch coordinated logistics for the State Emergency Coordination Center. Later, as an administrative and emergency manager for the Municipality of Anchorage, Fitch oversaw the Emergency Operations Center, inspected facilities within the Municipality, and presented emergency information to members of the community.

“We’re excited for Rob to join us,” said Director of Public Safety Chase Stapp. “His decades of experience at the university, state, and local level make him a perfect fit for San Marcos and we’re sure he will be a valuable asset to our team.”

Fitch holds professional certifications from FEMA, completing courses in the agency’s Professional Development Series and COOP Train the Trainer programs. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Excelsior College and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
