Major Work Completed On Wonder World Drive & Hunter Road Improvements

This week, City contracted crews completed major construction work on intersection and safety improvements at Wonder World Drive and Hunter Road.

Drivers will note that barricades have been removed and signal timing has been revised for regular operations.

The final mill and overlay process will begin in a few weeks and will occur at night to minimize impacts to traffic.

The process is expected to begin in late February or early March when nighttime temperatures rise and become conducive to asphalt paving.

Pavement marking will also occur at that time. All work is expected to be complete by the end of March 2021.

Safety improvements at the Wonder World Drive and Hunter Road intersection include the construction of a pedestrian refuge island, additional sidewalks and curb ramps, and the installation of pedestrian signal poles.

Also, an extra-wide turn lane was constructed from Hunter onto the eastbound lanes of Wonder World Drive to accommodate large truck traffic.

Lone Star Sitework of Wimberley completed construction for the $713,196 project. The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) awarded the City $450,000 in federal grant funding.

The City’s Capital Improvement Program funded the remaining project costs.
