Mayor Hughson Issues Public Health Advisory: Stay Home To Save Lives
San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson Thursday issued a Public Health Advisory, “Stay Home to Save Lives”, continuing to urge the public to remain at home during the coronavirus pandemic.
In a video message to San Marcos residents on April 2, Hughson said people making unnecessary trips may be contributing to the spread of the virus, which can live on inanimate objects for hours.
“We are still learning about this virus,” she said, “including how it spreads and right now is the time to use serious caution to save lives. You may not get sick, but your parents, grandparents, or small children may. No age group is immune.”
All Texas residents are currently under an Order from Governor Greg Abbott to remain at home.
In that Order, the Governor said, “In accordance with guidance from Texas Department of Health Services Commissioner Dr. Hellerstedt, and to achieve the goals established by the President to reduce the spread of COVID-19, every person in Texas shall, except where necessary to provide or obtain essential services, minimize social gatherings and minimize in-person contact with people who are not in the same household.”
Hughson’s video message reiterated the imperative nature of staying home.
“Staying at home is proven to work,” she said. “In the communities where distancing is required, the number of cases levels off and then goes down. Where distancing is not required or encouraged, the number of cases continues to rise.”
The Mayor implored viewers to ask themselves if their reason for leaving their home was essential.
“If so,” she said, “proceed but keep your distance from others. And remember, do not touch your face! Upon your return home, wash your hands, clean your steering wheel, door handles and everything you touched between the last potentially germy surface and the sink where you washed your hands.”
Hughson also said she wants people to think more in terms of physical distancing than social distancing, because “…that’s really what it’s all about – staying a cough or sneeze away from anyone and everyone outside of your household family.”

Namely, you’re not honest enough to admit your own incompetence at hand, and to avoid
any circumstance which might tend to prove that, you forthwith refuse to obey the governor’s
order which specifically finds we hold right toTHE “ESSENTIAL SERVICE” OF OUR CITY PARKS .
You know, the place designed for social distancing, fresh air, exercise and sunshine.

The governor’s order expressly overruled your decision to keep such ‘dirty places’ closed.
YOU, nevertheless, want to continue shouldering others with your own ‘learning’ curve.
We understand that in your mind, the governor’s order is nothing until you say it’s something.
However, in real life you don’t understand this is no longer your decision. Shocking, huh?
