Mercury Media Settles Lawsuit With SM Corridor News Owner/Publisher

MERCURY STAFF REPORT: Mercury Media San Marcos LLC, parent company of the San Marcos Mercury and Bobcat Magazine, has reached a settlement agreement with its former advertising director, Melissa Jewett.

Under terms of the agreement, both parties will drop their claims in exchange for the consideration being paid to Jewett.

“Melissa Jewett was an effective and efficient advertising director. I regret that our professional relationship deteriorated to the point it could not be salvaged,” Mercury Media owner Brad Rollins said. “I wish Jewett the best in her career and know we both look forward to putting this unfortunate episode behind us.”

Rollins and Mercury Media were represented by San Marcos attorney John McGlothlin. Melissa Jewett was represented by San Marcos attorney Mark Cusack and Beverly Isaiah-Bermudez of Morris & Bermudez Attorneys at Law in New Braunfels.
Melissa,

During the nine months you sold advertising for the San Marcos Mercury, you were not only an efficient and effective colleague, you were a valued friend.
Because of circumstances beyond my control — but for which I am responsible — both our professional and personal relationship deteriorated beyond the point it was salvageable. I regret that is resulted in protracted litigation that has been difficult and costly for both us.
With this matter behind us, I wish you nothing but the best in everything you pursue from here on on out.

  1. This guy Rollins sounds like a real piece of work. Funny how in getting older some folks develop a sense of other people long before they know them.

I guess that’s why, (as an officially old folk) I never wanted to meet with him or trust him with information, nor could I tell you why.

However, I do recall that especially glowing obituary he wrote in 2012 upon the violent death of long time local activist Charles O’Dell, a man known to the world for his honesty, agriculture and work ethic. Upon confirming O’Dell’s death, he described him as “the self-appointed leader of an organization he called HaysCAN, O’Dell distinguished himself in his last decade as an activist in county politics, deploying an incendiary mix of accusation and innuendo in support of his chosen candidates”

Rollins finished his sermon with “Those he targeted thought he was a reckless provocateur without shame or scruples.” The deader his opponents get, the braver Rollins apparently becomes.

Can’t say that I know you Brad, but I can say why I don’t.
