San Marcos CISD Releases Health Update To Parents On Coronavirus

Staff Reports

On Thursday, the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District released a letter providing parents with a health update on the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Michael Cardona, SMCISD Superintendent Of Schools, said the district wanted to be proactive and communicate transparently with parents regarding COVID-19.

According to Cardona, the district is following media reports and information shared by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to remain informed.

“While no cases have been suspected among our local community, please be assured that we are monitoring the situation and will stay up to date with information that becomes available from the public health authorities,” Cardona said in the letter.

The school district has been advised by health officials to use the same measures for everyday illnesses to protect against  COVID-19.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with the inside of your elbow when you cough or sneeze.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Cardona said any decisions that may need to be made regarding a change to school operations will be done with guidance and direction from public health officials as well as the Texas Education Agency and Region 13.
