San Marcos CM Elected To Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool

San Marcos City Manager Bert Lumbreras has been elected to the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool for a six-year term.

“I’m humbled to have been chosen to be part of the TML Risk Pool Board of Trustees and look forward to working with my colleagues to achieve the goals of this entity that is of such importance to its member organizations,” Lumbreras said.

Lumbreras was elected to Place 12 with a term beginning Oct. 1 and expiring Oct. 1, 2024.

The election for Places 11 to 14 on the Board of Trustees was held this summer. From July 3 to Aug. 12, nominations were received from the members of the TML Risk Pool and placed on a ballot that was mailed Aug. 17. Members had until Sept. 30 to return the ballots, which were counted on Oct. 1.

The Board of Trustees is the governing board of the TML Risk Pool and is responsible for governance and operations. It establishes the coverage provided to the TML Risk Pool membership, provides for the handling of claims and lawsuits against members, sets rates, maintains the financial stability of the organization, approves contracts necessary to carry out the functions of the organization, provides for the employment of staff, and sets policy to guide the functions and duties of the organization.

The TML Risk Pool provides more than 2,800 local governments with workers’ compensation coverage, liability coverage, and property coverage.

Members of the TML Risk Pool include cities, airport authorities, mental health/intellectual disability agencies, municipal utility districts, conservation & reclamation districts, navigation districts, councils of government, public utility boards, downtown management & improvement districts, river authorities, drainage districts, tax appraisal districts, fire districts/emergency service districts, transit authorities, flood control districts, water & irrigation districts, hospital districts, 911 districts, housing authorities, and library districts.
