San Marcos Main Street Programs Kicks Off 2017 Spring Cleaning

In April, the Main Street Program will begin a series of improvements to downtown San Marcos.

The last of the permanent lighting installation with be completed March 27 – April 7. Current Electric will install wires and meters to service lights on the top of buildings around the square. While a few of the buildings will need to be accessed, workers will utilize right of way for the most part.

Students from Texas State University will visit downtown as part of Bobcat Build and clean sidewalks, planters and other things in the area.  Approximately 50 students will participate in the effort. Work begins on April 1.

Scrubbers and pressure washers will be used to clean downtown sidewalks by Debi services. The work will be done between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m., May 21-26 one block at a time. Certain lanes will be closed to allow trucks access to the sidewalks.

The Main Street Program will also add a full-time job position as downtown groundskeeper. The new position will start in mid-April and will “keep eyes and feet on the ground” during the “downtown beautification” effort.
