UPDATED 1:42 PM: San Marcos Police Department Investigates Death In Hills Of Hays Neighborhood

Staff Reports

On Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019, at approximately 11:23 AM, the San Marcos Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Hilltop Dr in the Hills of Hays Neighborhood for a report of shots fired.

Witnesses advised that the victim, Brihana Landrum (05/17/1994), had been shot in the head by her ex-boyfriend Adrian Diaz (03/08/1990).  Landrum and Diaz had been involved in an on-again, off-again relationship for several years.

Diaz was reported to have fled the scene in his vehicle. The victim’s family members loaded her into a vehicle and attempted to take her to the hospital. However, according to officials, Landrum died from her wounds before she reached the hospital.

Officials said, a short time later, San Marcos Police Communications received a request for EMS to respond to a location in Guadalupe County for a male subject with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The description of the vehicle matched that of the vehicle in which the suspect was seen leaving the crime scene. Responding units were able to confirm the identity of the deceased subject to be Diaz.

Detectives from the San Marcos Police Department and the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Department are conducting a joint investigation into these incidents.

The San Marcos Police Department is conducting the investigation into the homicide while the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Department is conducting the investigation into the suicide.

This is the second homicide in San Marcos for 2019.

    1. Hi Tex,

No, the San Marcos Police Department has not released an update as of yet. With the city offices closed for Presidents Day, it is entirely possible we will not receive any updates until Tuesday. Unfortunately, it is another side affect of SMPD’s lack of a communications officer. All communications with the department have to go through the city communications team.

      Sincerely, Staff
