San Marcos To Commemorate Fallen Heroes

Mayor John Thomaides will preside over the Memorial Day ceremony alongside former San Marcos City Council member and retired Air Force colonel Dr. Ted Dake, Jr., who will serve as the featured speaker for the program.

The public is invited to the Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 28 to pay tribute to Hays County service members who lost their lives in combat. The event will start at 10 a.m. at the Hays County Veterans Memorial, 450 E. Hopkins Street.

Veterans from different war eras will participate in the ceremonial reading of the names of the city’s fallen heroes dating back to World War I.

Those attending this year’s Memorial Day program can purchase marble plaques to honor their loved ones on site.

Participants will also be able to learn more about the veterans’ organizations that are active in the San Marcos community, as well as the Hays County Veterans Service Office, located in the Hays County Courthouse.

Those who cannot attend the ceremony and would like to purchase a memorial plaque may do s at the Parks and Recreation office, 401 E. Hopkins St., during business hours.
