What U.S. 183 Detours, Closure Are Happening This Week

Short and long term lane, road closures and detours that may impact drivers along US 183 and adjacent roadways in east Austin.

Below is an overview of the 183 South project’s lane, road, and ramp closures. Work continues along US 183, including bridge construction, roadway installation, sound wall work, utility work.

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority is an independent government agency created in 2002 to improve the transportation system in Williamson and Travis counties.

The Mobility Authority is overseen by a seven-member Board of Directors. The Governor appoints the Chairman, and the Travis and Williamson counties Commissioners Courts each appoint three members to serve on the Board.

Short Term

 

FRIDAY (7/5) 10 PM to 8 AM, US 183 southbound mainlane closed from 51st to MLK Blvd.

MONDAY – TUESDAY (7/8-7/9) from 9 AM to 3 PM, US 183 in both directions left general-purpose lane closed at MLK Blvd.

MONDAY – TUESDAY (7/8-7/9) from 8 PM to 6 AM, US 183 southbound will be reduced to one lane US 290 to Loyola Lane.

MONDAY – TUESDAY (7/8-7/9) from 8 PM to 6 AM, US 183 main lanes in both directions there will be various closures at Thompson Lane.

MONDAY – SATURDAY (7/8-7/13)  from 8 AM to 4 PM, US 183 general-purpose lanes in both directions there will be various closures at Manor Springdale Road.

SUNDAY (7/7) 9 PM to 6 AM and MONDAY (7/8) 8 PM to 6 AM, US 183 by-pass lanes in both directions will be closed from Techni Center Drive to Loyola Lane and the U-turn(s) will be closed at MLK Blvd.

SUNDAY – MONDAY (7/7-7/8) from 6 PM to 6 AM, US 183 northbound mainlane will be reduced to one lane Loyola Lane to Manor Springdale Road.

MONDAY – TUESDAY (7/8-7/9) from 8 PM to 6 AM, US 183 southbound exit to Levander Loop closed and US 183 mainlane reduced to one lane Bolm Rd. to Vargas Rd.

MONDAY – WEDNESDAY (7/8-7/10) from 10 PM to 6 AM, US 183 southbound mainlane closed from 51st Street to MLK Blvd.

TUESDAY – THURSDAY (7/9-7/12) 9 PM to 5 AM and FRIDAY (7/13) 9 PM to 8 AM, US 183 southbound on-ramps will be closed at Manor Springdale Road and Cameron Road. US 183 main lanes in both directions will be closed from  Loyola Lane to US 290.

TUESDAY – THURSDAY (7/9-7/11) 10 PM to 5 AM and FRIDAY (7/12) 10 PM to 6 AM, US 183 northbound mainlane will be closed from MLK Blvd. to 51st Street.

MONDAY – SATURDAY (7/8-7/13) from 8 AM to 4 PM, US 183 in both directions there will be various closures from Thurgood Avenue to Manor Springdale Road.

MONDAY – FRIDAY (7/8-7/12) 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM and SATURDAY – SUNDAY (7/13-7/14) 7 AM to 5 PM, US 183 southbound general-purpose will be reduced to one lane from US 290 to Manor Springdale Road.

MONDAY – TUESDAY (7/8-7/9) 8 PM to 6 AM, Montopolis Drive will be closed from Ponca Street to US 183.

SUNDAY (7/7) 6 PM to 6 AM and MONDAY – FRIDAY (7/8-7/18) 8 PM to 6 AM, US 183 left mainlane in both directions will be closed from Thurgood Avenue to Techni Center Drive.

MONDAY – SATURDAY (7/8-7/13) from 7 AM to 5 PM, US 183 U-turn(s) at Manor Springdale Road will be closed.

FRIDAY (7/12) 8 PM to 10 AM and SATURDAY (7/13) 6 PM to 10 AM, US 183 northbound mainlane will be reduced to one lane from Thompson Lane to Bolm Road.  Airport Blvd. will be closed at US 183 from 9 PM to 2 AM

Long Term

 

ROAD CLOSURE: The US 183 underpass at Bolm Road will CLOSE PERMANENTLY to eastbound and westbound cross traffic and the traffic signal will be removed. Bolm Road eastbound traffic will detour via the south to north U-turn at Levander Loop to access US 183 northbound. Bolm Road westbound traffic will detour via a new temporary north to south U-turn located just north of Bolm Road to access US 183 Southbound

RAMP CLOSURE: SH 71 westbound exit ramp to US 183 southbound will be closed. Detour by exiting for the U-turn at E. Riverside Drive and heading eastbound on SH 71 to the US 183 southbound exit for bridge construction. | Beginning as early as Sunday, August 26, at 6 PM and lasting approximately 10-12 months

CONTINUOUS ROAD CLOSURE: US 183 southbound to US 183 northbound U-Turn will be closed at Levander Loop. Follow the signed detour for bridge construction. | Starting September 4, 2018, to August 31, 2019

ROAD CLOSURE: The signalized crossing of US 183 at 51st Street is permanently closed and the traffic signal has been removed. Drivers must utilize the U-turns at MLK and Manor/Springdale Road as an alternative to cross over US 183. | Starting October 11, 2018, to March 31, 2020

CONSTRUCTION ZONE: Springdale Pedestrian Bridge will be closed for Demo/Reconstruction. Ped traffic to detour at Sprindale/Manor crossings for Pedestrian Bridge Construction. | Starting February 9, 2019, to October 2019

ROAD CLOSURE: The crossing of US 183 at Central Ave will permanently close. Drivers will instead use the U-turns at MLK and Bolm Road to reach the other side of US 183 for intersection work. | Starting October 15, 2018 – October 1, 2020.

ROAD CLOSURE: The crossing of US 183 at Hudson Street will permanently close. Drivers will instead use the U-turns at MLK and Bolm Road to reach the other side of US 183 for intersection work. | Starting October 15, 2018 – October 1, 2020

ROAD CLOSURE: The TechniCenter Drive crossing at US 183 will be permanently closed for intersection work. | Starting October 15, 2018 – October 1, 2020

ROAD CLOSURE: Bluestein Dr (West of 183) is continuously closed for Roadway Base Installation. | Starting June 01, 2019 – August 30, 2019

ROAD CLOSURE: Bluestein Dr (East of 183) is continuously closed for Utility Work. | Starting June 01, 2019 – August 01, 2019 At 10 AM

ROAD CLOSURE: Continuous closure extended, Vargas Road closed at US 183 southbound to Lynch Lane. for Roadway Base Installation. | Starting June 01, 2019 – July 31, 2019, At 5:00 PM

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) is an independent government agency created in 2002 to improve the transportation system in Williamson and Travis counties.

According to their website, their mission is “to implement innovative, multi-modal transportation solutions that reduce congestion and create transportation choices that enhance quality of life and economic vitality.”
The Mobility Authority was created and operates under the Texas Transportation Code Chapter 370 and is authorized under state law to implement a wide range of transportation systems including roadways, airports, seaports and transit services.
The Mobility Authority is authorized to issue revenue bonds to fund projects and can utilize user fees and/or taxes to fund operations and repay bonds.
