Ten Bobcats qualify for NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminaries

SAN MARCOS- The NCAA announced that 10 Texas State student-athletes have qualified to compete in the preliminary rounds of the 2021 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The West Preliminary is on May 26-29 at Texas A&M’s E.B. Cushing Stadium in College Station, Texas.

The top 12 individuals in each event will qualify to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships June 9-12 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Texas State has 10 individuals and a 4×400-meter relay team competing at the NCAA Outdoor West Preliminary. They include Bervensky Pierre, Jaylen Allen, Kobe Daniels, Pedro Osorio Lopez, Kwanele Mthembu, Kattiana Ealy-Pulido, Ariana Ealy-Pulido, Ronnie Briscoe, Brandon Busby, and Katherine Stuckly.

Bervensky Pierre will compete in the men’s 200 meters after qualifying with a time of 20.87 seconds at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships.

Jaylen Allen and Kobe Daniels compete in the men’s 400 meters after their career-best times at the Sun Belt Championships. Allen was the Sun Belt Outdoor Champion with a time of 46.44 seconds, and Daniels finished the race in 46.80 seconds.

Pedro Osorio Lopez was the Sun Belt champion in the 800 meters after posting a career-best time of 1:48.38 a week earlier at the Texas State Bobcat Classic.

Kwanele Mthembu will compete in the men’s 10,000-meter race after he set a record and led wire-to-wire at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships with a time of 28:48.33.

Texas State will have twin sisters, Kattiana and Ariana Ealy-Pulido, competing in the women’s 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Preliminary. Kattiana won the 100-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 13.33 seconds at the Sun Belt Conference meet. She was the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.82 seconds.

Ariana also had career-best times of 13.45 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and 1:00.04 at the Sun Belt Championships

NCAA Indoor All-American Katherine Stuckly will compete in the women’s high jump at the NCAA Preliminary after clearing 1.76 meters (5’ 9.25”) at the Texas Relays. She cleared a career-best 1.81 meters (5’ 11.25”) at the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships earlier this season.

Ronnie Briscoe, Jr. qualified in the men’s long jump after he had a wind-aided leap of 7.72 meters (25’ 4”) at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational.

Brandon Busby will compete in the men’s hammer after setting a school record with a throw of 64.86 meters (212’ 9”) at the UIW Invitational and was a bronze medalist at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships.
