Texas State Soccer Player Repeats As Sun Belt Offensive Player Of The Week

Late in the 51st minute, Davis netted her second goal of the match when she took a rip from a tight angle on the right side. She found the upper left netting to increase Texas State’s advantage to three goals.

NEW ORLEANS – For the second straight week, junior forward Kaylee Davis of the Texas State soccer team was selected as the Sun Belt Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after her performance against ULM in the conference opener.

Davis scored the opening goal of the third annual Teal Match early in the 17th minute after Mackenzie Smith won a challenge and knocked the ball to the Allen, Texas native. The tally turned out to be the match-winner with the Bobcats going on to shut out the Warhawks.

Late in the 51st minute, Davis netted her second goal of the match when she took a rip from a tight angle on the right side. She found the upper left netting to increase Texas State’s advantage to three goals. It was the fourth time she had scored two goals in a match since arriving at TXST, all of which have come against Sun Belt opponents.

Davis finished the contest taking 11 shots and placing six on goal. Her shot total is tied for the second most in a match in the program with Jerelyn Lemmie, who did so versus The Citadel on Sept. 16, 2004. The junior was also one attempt shy of matching her career-high and program mark that she set last season at home against Appalachian State.

It is the second time in the past two seasons that Texas State has had a player be named the Sun Belt’s Offensive Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks. Former Bobcat Kassi Hormuth did so last season during the middle of October.

The Bobcats hit the road this weekend for two Sun Belt matches at Louisiana and South Alabama on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
