Texas State Soccer Signs 10 For 2017 Class

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State head soccer coach Kat Conner announced the addition of 10 players for the 2017 season on the first day of the signing period.

Putting on Bobcat uniforms this fall will be Sarah Everett, Haley Groff, Cameron Hart, Sydney Kammer, Renny Moore, Sierra Niemann, Jessica Pikoff, Holly Streber, Kayla Streber and Megan Doyle.

“This year’s recruiting class is like last year’s 2016 class with good athletes that are driven on and off the field,” said Conner. “They bring that focused intensity to whatever they do.”

Sarah Everett

Everett will arrive in San Marcos after attending Veritas Academy. She is a three-time TAPPS 2A All-State First Team and All-District 3-2A First Team selection.

The 5-foot, 8-inch defensive back has helped lead the Defenders to back-to-back TAPPS 2A State Championships in 2015 and 2016 and a runner-up finish in 2014. Everett was named to the 2014 TAPPS 2A State All-Tournament team.

“Sarah is a center defender that is smart and technical, reminding me a lot of Elizabeth Havenhill,” said Conner. “She always has the right angle of approach for a tackle or has that timing to pick off penetrating passes.”

Haley Groff

A 5-foot, 5-inch forward, Groff helped lead Westwood High School to a regional semifinal appearance last year. She netted three goals and was credited five assists in 2015.

Along with competing on the soccer pitch, Groff competed for the track team in the 100m, 200m and 4x400m relay. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Health Occupations Students of America, FCA and is the President of the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy.

Groff competed five years for the club team Austin Texans 98, serving as a team captain each season. She helped lead the squad to win three straight state championships from 2014-16. Over the last three years, Groff has scored 39 goals and been credited with 63 assists. She chose Texas State over multiple Division I programs including Arkansas, Baylor, Houston, Rice, Southern Miss and Stephen F. Austin.

“Haley is a strong forward who likes to go at defenders and is relentless,” Conner said. “She sets up a lot of goals for her club and high school teammates but doesn’t hesitate to score herself.”

Cameron Hart

Joining Texas State from Wakeland High School is Hart. Having played both defensive back and midfield, she has totaled 11 goals and 20 assists in her high school career and earned first team all-district honors.

For the past 10 years, Hart has played for the club team FC Dallas 99. The last four years as a defender she has seen her record seven goals and 14 assists while helping the team earn the No. 1 ranking in the Texas Conference.

“Cameron is quick, strong and technically gifted. She usually plays outside defender but you may see her up in the attack as well,” Conner stated. “She is like Genesis Turman, plays with fire and heart. Cameron is one of the most competitive players I have seen. She just hates to lose, which is what I love about her.”

Sydney Kammer

Kammer is a 5-foot, 6-inch forward from Cedar Ridge High School. Over the last two years she has scored 23 goals and credited with 12 assists. Both seasons she was named to the All-District 13-6A first team.

On the club scene, she has played for the Austin Texans under the direction of JD Cochran and Wes Schevers. Kammer was named the team’s MVP in 2013 and 2015 and helped the squad win the South Texas State Championship in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

“Sydney is that forward that has a nose for the goal,” said Conner. “Great strikers know where to be and when to be there. She has that goal sense. I love her attitude that she will not be denied and that reminds me of former Texas State striker Lynsey Curry!”

Renny Moore

Moore will arrive at Texas State from Westlake High School in Austin, Texas. A two-time All-District 25-6A first team pick, she finished with 19 goals and six assists as a junior. The year before, she was named the District 25-6A Offensive MVP after totaling 22 goals and 12 assists while helping lead the team to a regional semifinal appearance and 21-2-1 record.

From 2011-15 Moore was part of the South Texas State Olympic Development Program Texas State team. She also played on the club team Lonestars 98/99.

“Renny is an energetic, strong attacking midfielder with great vision and the technical ability to play what she sees,” said Conner. “She has that understanding of how to get on the end of a cross and finish as well.”

Sierra Niemann

Niemann is a 5-foot, 2-inch outside midfielder out of Pflugerville High School. A three-time academic all-district selection, she was a part of the South Texas State Olympic Development Program in 2012 and 2013.

For the past three years Niemann has played for the club team Austin Texans. During that time, she the squad win the South Texas State Championship in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

“Sierra is a smart, skillful player that can go at defenders and create scoring opportunities for her team,” said Conner. “She is energetic and feisty which reminds me a lot of current Bobcat player Jordan Kondikoff, a fan favorite.”

Jessica Pikoff

In her fourth year playing for the Vandegrift High School, Pikoff is an outside back that can also play in the midfield. She has helped lead the team to three consecutive district championships, a state championship in 2014, a runner-up state finish in 2015 and a regional finals appearance last season.

Her performance on the field helped earn her all-district selection.

“Jessica has the ability to play anywhere. She has a great understanding of the game,” Conner said. “She is very technical and physically she just never quits. We will use her as an outside defender or outside midfielder. Jessica reminds me of former Bobcat defender Taylor Allen, a very tough player.”

Holly Streber

Also arriving to San Marcos from Vandegrift HS is Holly Streber. As an outside back, she earned all-district honors and was named to the NEPS All-Tournament Team in 2016.

The soon to be Bobcat has been a part of three straight district championship squads that won the state title in 2014, reached the state title game the following year and was a regional finalist last year.

In the classroom, Streber is a National Merit Commended Scholar and AP Scholar while earning academic all-district honors.

“Holly is a very gifted player that can play anywhere. I think you will see her playing outside defender as a Bobcat,” said Conner. “She has a great timing of when to step, intercept passes and start the counterattack.”

Kayla Streber

Joining Holly Streber at Texas State is her twin sister Kayla, an attacking midfielder. She is the third signee from Vandegrift HS in Austin. Kayla has been a part of a state championship, a state runner-up finish, a regional finalist and three consecutive district championship teams.

Streber is an academic all-district honoree and earned National Merit Commended Scholar and AP Scholar.

“Kayla has developed into a strong, tenacious attacking midfielder,” Conner stated. “She has an unbelievable work rate and is always there to finish off crosses. She is a very smart player who thinks the game at a high level.”

Megan Doyle

Doyle is a 5-foot, 5-inch forward from Cypress Woods High School in Cypress, Texas. In her three-plus seasons on the Wildcats’ soccer team, she has totaled 49 goals and 23 assists. This year she has helped the team start 6-2 while serving as team captain.

As a junior, she was a first team all-district selection while Cypress Woods compiled a 15-1-1 record and claimed the district championship with an undefeated district record.

Doyle has played the past two years for Albion soccer club, netting eight goals and getting credited with three assists. The previous two years saw her play for the club team Cyclones. During her tenure with the squad, the soon to be Bobcat totaled 27 goals and 14 assists.

“Megan is a speedy forward who likes to be played in behind the defensive line. She will be a good player for us with her energy and fitness,” Conner stated. “As a Bobcat, she will see time as a forward or outside midfielder.”
