Three SMCISD Board Of Trustee Seats Marked For May 2020 Ballot

San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District has three seats up for re-election this May.
After 37 years of service to SMCISD, School Board Trustee, Lupe Costilla, will not seek re-election for the District 3 seat.
Mayra Mejia and Costilla’s grandson, Nicholas, will face off in the race to fill her seat.
Mejia, 32, is the newspaper coordinator for Texas State’s University Star; Nicholas, 30, works for the Hays County District Attorney’s office as the lead legal assistant.
Incumbent Miguel Arredondo, 28, will seek re-election for District 1 against challenger James Bryant, 71.
Bryant is a retired merchant marine, and Arredondo is an education program coordinator at Texas State University.
Board Trustee Margie T. Villalpando will run uncontested for the District 2 seat.
Over 8,000 students are enrolled in SMCISD, according to the district’s website.
Early voting for the May Election opens on April 20 and will run through April 28; election day will be May 2 from 7 AM to 7 PM.
