TxDMV To Issue Waivers For Certain Vehicle Registrations, Parking Placards Due To Coronavirus

Yesterday, Governor Abbott issued a statement granting a temporary extension to obtain initial vehicle registration, renewal of registration, and renewal of a permanent disabled parking placard.

The purpose of the waiver is to prevent the public from having to visit a county tax assessor-collector office during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Included in the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) extensions, any individual with an expired 30-day temporary permit to obtain another permit or Texas registration.

The temporary waiver applies to vehicle owners in all Texas counties, as outlined in the above-referenced statement. The waivers will be in effect up until 60 days after the notice is provided and applies to all Texas counties.

The temporary waiver grants an extension for initial issuance of registration, renewal of registration, renewal of a permanent disabled parking placard, and issuance of a 30-day temporary permit needed to operate a vehicle on public roads.

The TxDMV will notify law enforcement of the temporary waivers and will provide Texans notice when regular renewal and permit issuance services have resumed.
