U.S. Census: Texas, And Four TX Metros Tops List Of Largest Population Growth In 2015

The U.S. Census Bureau today announced four Texas metro areas together added more people last year than any state in the country except for Texas as a whole. Key findings released in the announcement include:

  • The population in the four metro areas (Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston) increased by more than 400,000 people from July 1, 2014, to July 1, 2015.
  • Austin and San Antonio were each among the 16 nationwide to gain 50,000 or more people over the period.
  • The four Texas metro areas collectively added about 412,000 people. Texas as a whole gained about 490,000.

Adriana Cruz, President of the Greater San Marcos Partnership, the economic development organization serving the City of San Marcos, and Hays and Caldwell Counties, remarked on the U.S. Census Bureau’s announcement:

“According to U.S. Census Bureau data released just today, four metro areas in Texas added more people last year than any other state. Already home to the country’s fastest growing city, San Marcos (and one of the country’s fastest growing counties, Hays County), the Greater San Marcos region is once again at the epicenter of the nation’s population growth.

With the Greater San Marcos region at the hub of the Austin-San Antonio corridor, our area is a bridge between the two metros, making us well positioned to play a major role in supporting the most dynamic corridor in the U.S. At GSMP, we’re consistently working alongside elected officials to prepare for the future of our region through forward-focused infrastructure investment, workforce training, and quality job creation—so that our region’s growth is by design, not default,” replied Cruz.
