Women’s Council Grants Impact 4 Local Non-Profits

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – For the seventh consecutive year, the Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) Women’s Council awarded impact grants to local non-profits that make a difference in the lives of women and children in Hays County.

This year, four organizations received a portion of the available $12,000 in grant funding at the council’s grant award ceremony on June 15.

Established in 2010, the Women’s Council is a unique fundraising committee of the CTMC Foundation that utilizes member dues to fund its efforts rather than traditional events and activities. 

“Thanks to our members, we are able to impact hundreds of local women and children in a positive way year after year,” said CTMC Foundation Director Jerilyn Miller. “It is a privilege to be able to provide these much-needed resources to such worthy local causes.”

Each year, part of the grant funding goes to the CTMC Women’s Center to help with equipment upgrades and expanding programs. The remaining funds are awarded to other non-profits serving women and children. To date, the organization has provided $110,000 in funding to 17 local organizations.

This year’s grants were awarded to the following organizations:

San Marcos Giving Hope – $1,000

Since 2007, Giving Hope of San Marcos has helped under-resourced families during the Christmas season by providing a free meal, groceries, toys, Bibles and entertainment to local families.

School Fuel – $4,000

School Fuel is a program that provides weekend nutrition to underprivileged San Marcos school children. The grant funding will be used to help feed 511 children by sending a sack of food home with them on Friday afternoons.

United Way – $1,000

The United Way will use this grant to support its Born Learning Program, which is designed specifically to help young children prepare for school. Through education material, the program offers “doable” action steps that make it easy and fun to help young children learn during every day activities, such as sorting laundry or grocery shopping.

The CTMC Women’s Center – $6,000

The CTMC Women’s Center will use its portion of grant funding expand the educational programs. The funding will provide financial support for lactation education, infant safety classes, a CPR for caregivers class, a grandparent infant refresher course and sibling classes.
