Texas State is now set to venture out on the road for the first time this campaign.

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team lost a narrow 4-0 decision to Baylor Wednesday night at Bobcat Ballpark.

The Bobcats (2-3) were playing in front of a crowd of 2,002, which marked the 13th time in stadium history and the second time this season that TXST hosted at least 2,000 fans. The announced attendance for the season opener against Purdue on Feb. 17 was 2,068.

Sophomore Jonathan Ortega went 3-for-5 to pace the Bobcats at the plate. Junior Theodore Hoffman continued his hot start to the season with a 2-for-4 effort.

The Bobcats utilized eight pitchers on the staff day, and six posted clean sheets. Senior Joe Powell, juniors Braden Pearson and Blake Walden, sophomore Brandon Lewis, and true freshmen Broc Bosse and Zachary Leigh all combined to concede zero runs on just five hits in 6.0 innings. They also struck out three and walked just one.

Junior Cam Baird (0-1) started on the mound and suffered the loss after conceding three runs on six hits in 2.0 innings.

Alex Phillips (1-0) earned the victory for the Bears after throwing the first 2.0 frames. He gave up two hits and struck out three. Kyle Hill tossed the next four and allowed five hits while striking out five. Joe Heineman and Kyle Ott pitched the last 3.0 innings and combined to give up two hits.

Shea Langeliers went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead all batters. Steven McLean and Kameron Esthay also posted a pair of hits.

Texas State is now set to venture out on the road for the first time this campaign. The maroon and gold will head to Stillwater, Oklahoma, for a three-game series Feb. 24-26 against Oklahoma State.
