Buda earns Tree City USA designation for 2nd consecutive year

BUDA, TX — The City of Buda recently earned the designation for the 2nd consecutive year as a Tree City USA city by the Texas Forest Service and the Arbor Day Foundation. This effort was led by the City’s Sustainability Commission and Parks Commission.

Buda is known for its small town charm and as the Outdoor Capital of Texas. The community’s majestic Live Oak trees that line Main Street and are found in our parks are an essential part of Buda’s character. The City actively protects these trees and has planted even more at our recently renovated City Park.

The Tree City USA program has been greening up cities and towns across America since 1976. It is a nationwide movement that provides the framework necessary for communities to manage and expand their public trees.

More than 3,400 communities have made the commitment to becoming a Tree City USA. They have achieved Tree City USA status by meeting four core standards of sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and celebrating Arbor Day.
