Hays County Plans More Free COVID-19 Testing Starting Tomorrow

Because of the success of recent testing events, Hays County has planned two new COVID-19 testing sites offering ten additional testing days. This FREE testing is made possible by the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) and the Texas Army National Guard.

These sites will offer walk-up testing only, not a drive-thru, so please be prepared to exit your vehicle. No pre-registration is needed. Remember to wear a mask to the testing site.

Below are the details about the upcoming testing opportunities, which are for those age five (5) and older only:

Location #1

Hays CISD Performing Arts Center, 979 Kohlers Crossing, Kyle, Texas
Date: Saturday, June 27 to Wednesday, July 1
Time: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday*, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. all other days
*NOTE: On June 27, the earlier morning hours between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. are reserved for school staff only.

Location #2

San Marcos High School, 2601 Rattler Rd., San Marcos, Texas
Date
: Sunday, July 12 to Thursday, July 16
Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day

Results from these testing sites will be sent directly to the individual, not the health department.

  1. So all the testing the next couple weeks in and around San Marcos is walk up only? Is this testing only mouth swab not thru the nose? Since I am 76 I don’t want to be around other people i don’t know, so is there any drive thru, or is it better to go to your own doctor or ARC type facility?

    1. Hello Paulette,

Premier Urgent Care in San Marcos on 1509 N. IH 35 is offering Drive-Thru testing; however, a referral and appointment is required. CVS Pharmacy, 920 Highway 80, San Marcos, TX 78666, (512) 396-1111 is also offering drive-thru testing, according to the city’s website. Appointments are required, but it does not look like a referral is needed. We would recommend calling and asking to confirm.

Most other locations in San Marcos only offer Walk-In testing by appointment. Locations can be found here and here for SMTX.
