January Sales Tax Revenue Surpasses Last Month For Hays County And Local Municipalities

January sales tax revenue in the local municipal governments and Hays County had a better January than they had in December 2017.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced yesterday he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $709.2 million in local sales tax allocations for January, 9.5 percent more than in January 2017.

These allocations are based on sales made in November 2017 by businesses that report tax monthly.

Next month’s sales tax revenue allocations will be for December 2017, and due to the holiday season are typically higher in sales tax allocations for government entities.

The last quarter of the year for most retail around the country is where they break even and make their yearly profits.

The only Hays County municipality that had lower revenue than last month’s total, was Uhland. However, they were still up over what they received January of 2017.

San Marcos had a higher monthly percent change in January than any month on record going back to 2013. However, the City of San Marcos ended 2017 with a -2.95 percent deficit over 2016 (YOY).

Additionally, the City of San Marcos is carrying an overall total debt of $389,029,050. (Debt total was as of August 31, 2016. Source: Texas State Comptroller – Read more HERE.)

In 2017, the City of San Marcos received $27,860,431.05 in sales tax revenue, and in 2016, they received $28,707,576.37.
